Mephout (species)

The Mephout, a sentient species, hailed from the Mephout system found within the uncharted regions of Wild Space. Within Mephout society, the females were responsible for all diplomatic activities. The RST Model Translator Droids, humanoid automatons crafted to resemble female Mephout, fulfilled almost all translation tasks across the sector called the Mephout Dominion until it was discovered by the Galactic Empire.

Biology and appearance

The Mephout were a sentient species exhibiting sexual dimorphism, possessing both male and female sexes. Male Mephout were known for their libidos that tended to arise at inconvenient times. The RST Model Translator Droids, fashioned after the female Mephout form, possessed humanoid bodies standing 1.5-meter tall, featuring two arms each with four fingers, a torso adorned with a pair of noticeable breasts, and a head equipped with two visual and two auditory sensors in addition to a vocabulator.

Society and culture

The Mephout system, located in the remote Wild Space sector referred to as the Mephout Dominion, served as the point of origin for the Mephout. Because of the unpredictable nature of the male Mephout's libidos, the species entrusted all diplomatic roles to the females. In line with this, the Mephout commissioned the Plintep Cybernetics Corporation to manufacture the RST Model Translator Droids, which were designed to mirror the appearance of Mephout females.

Mephout in the galaxy

RST Model Translator Droids, such as 42-RST (pictured), were created in the image of female Mephout.

Until the Galactic Empire discovered their sector, the RST model droids were responsible for almost all translation tasks within the Mephout Dominion. By that time, the protocol droids available in the broader galaxy surpassed the RST model droids, as they could not only translate but also interpret cultural subtleties. This advantage, along with the RST models' history of causing disruptions during crucial government events due to their vulnerability to electromagnetic pulses, resulted in the rapid replacement of the Mephout-designed translator droids with protocol droids. The Mephout presented the Sullustan pilot Bungo Bung of the SoroSuub Corporation with the RST Model Translator Droid 42-RST as a supposed reward for his services; however, their true intention was simply to rid themselves of an obsolete droid.

Behind the scenes

The Mephout were referenced in the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game statistics accompanying the comic story "Bungo n' Rusti Get Carry-Out," penned by Jim Anderson and published in the November 1996 eleventh issue of Star Wars Adventure Journal by West End Games.
