The Mephout Dominion represented a sector located in Wild Space, and it was within this region that the Mephout system existed, serving as the native location for the Mephout species. In the year 4 ABY, the Nagai, who originated from beyond the galaxy, launched an attack against the governing body of the Mephout Dominion.
Situated at the edge of the known galaxy, the Mephout Dominion was a sector in Wild Space, existing in relative isolation. The Mephout system was located within this dominion, and it was the original home of the Mephout species, a sentient race.

The space surrounding the Mephout system was explored during the period stretching from 1000 BBY to 25 BBY. Until the Galactic Empire discovered the Mephout Dominion, the RST Model Translator Droids, designed by the Mephout, were responsible for almost all translation work in the sector. However, the droids' vulnerability to electromagnetic pulses, which often disrupted their rationality circuits, led to numerous issues during important governmental activities. These problems included the issuing of a marriage proposal, half a dozen declarations of war, and a dozen assassinations.
In 4 ABY, the Nagai raiders, who originated outside of the galaxy (extragalactic), attacked the Mephout system as part of their incursions into the galaxy. This assault targeted the Mephout Dominion's government, which had not yet formally allied itself with the Alliance of Free Planets.
The Mephout Dominion was initially referenced within the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game statistics that accompanied the comic story titled "Bungo n' Rusti Get Carry-Out." Jim Anderson was the author of this story, which was published in the November 1996 eleventh issue of Star Wars Adventure Journal by West End Games.
