Bungo Bung, hailing from the planet of Sullust, was a male Sullustan featured in various tales. He spent his formative years toiling on his father's farm cultivating boaboo fungus, but his true aspiration was to pilot starships. Eventually, he joined the Transport and Supply Division of the SoroSuub Corporation, ultimately achieving command of the Chubby Gundark, a Nyubba-class cargo barge driver. With the help of his droid co-pilot, 42-RST, affectionately nicknamed Rusti, Bung pioneered the legendary Great Bantha Breakfast Biscuit Run connecting Sullust and Gastrula in the Outer Rim Territories during the tumultuous times of the Galactic Civil War. His mission involved delivering the Biscuit Baron's coveted Bantha Breakfast Biscuits to the Gastrulans, facing opposition from Imperial Captain Wankle on his inaugural voyage. Despite earning a substantial profit, Bung's finances were leveled out due to the extensive repairs needed for his ship after a peculiar encounter with a Giant Amorphous Bantha Breakfast Biscuit, an unusual lifeform born from the interaction between the preservatives in the Bantha Breakfast Biscuits and the stale air within his vessel. He managed to survive this ordeal by exploiting the creature's weakness: blue sauce, the recommended condiment for the biscuits.

On the planet of Sullust, within its subterranean caverns, a male Sullustan named Bungo Bung came into existence. He spent his youth on his father's farm, cultivating boaboo fungus. Bung had minimal responsibilities and dedicated a significant portion of his time to idle contemplation. Droids were responsible for the fungus's cultivation, subsequently crushing it to produce boaboo juice. Bung's sole obligation was to tidy up the mess created by the droids when they inevitably malfunctioned in the humid environment, and to transport the juice to the markets located in G'rinn Go city.
However, Bung's true ambition was to pilot a starship, so upon reaching adulthood, the young Sullustan enlisted in the Transport and Supply Division of the SoroSuub Corporation. He served SoroSuub faithfully as a shipping pilot for several years, eventually rising to the rank of captain of the Nyubba-class cargo barge driver called the Chubby Gundark. During his voyages, Bung provided services to the Mephout, who gifted him the RST Model Translator Droid 42-RST, also known as "Rusti." Although Bung believed this gift was in recognition of his services, the Mephout were simply discarding outdated technology. 42-RST functioned as the Chubby Gundark's co-pilot and served as a translator.

At some point during the Galactic Civil War, Captain Bung and 42-RST returned to Sullust following a transport mission. In his perpetual state of hunger, Bung made a stop at his preferred eating establishment, the Biscuit Baron. While there, he attempted to convey his fondness for Bantha Breakfast Biscuits to 42-RST, who struggled to comprehend. Bung casually mentioned that many individuals in the Galactic Empire had never experienced the taste of a Breakfast Biscuit, prompting 42-RST to suggest loading the Chubby Gundark with the food and finding a buyer. Initially hesitant due to SoroSuub's regulations against transporting non-SoroSuub goods, Bung eventually conceded and invested a month's salary in forty crates of Breakfast Biscuits and blue sauce. 42-RST remarked that if they were caught, they could claim the food was for consumption, a plausible explanation given Bung's appetite.
Departing Sullust, the Chubby Gundark was intercepted by an Imperial-class Star Destroyer under the command of Captain Wankle. The transport was brought aboard the Imperial vessel for inspection, where a stormtrooper discovered the crates of Bantha Breakfast Biscuits. Upon learning of the abundant supply of blue sauce, Wankle ordered the confiscation of all but one crate, announcing a special meal for the crew that evening. Wankle allowed the Gundark to continue its journey, much to Bung's frustration and disappointment over the lost cargo.
Bung piloted the Gundark to the planet Gastrula in the Outer Rim Territories, where 42-RST negotiated the sale of the remaining crate of Breakfast Biscuits to the Gastrulans. This sale established a market for the food, leading to the creation of the Great Bantha Breakfast Biscuit Run connecting Sullust and Gastrula. Over a period of two weeks, Bung and 42-RST earned hundreds of thousands of credits transporting the Biscuits to the Gastrulans. Unfortunately for Bung, he was unaware of the strange anomaly that caused Bantha Breakfast Biscuits to mutate into the Giant Amorphous Bantha Breakfast Biscuit. The preservatives in the Biscuits, combined with the stale air in the Gundark's hold and the atmosphere on Gastrula, triggered the mutation and unleashed the amorphous lifeform, which then set out to consume all life on Gastrula.

Oblivious to these events, Bung was returning to Sullust with two crates of Biscuits when the contents of one crate mutated and broke free. The Giant Amorphous Bantha Breakfast Biscuit began consuming everything in its path, including the barges being hauled by the Chubby Gundark. Bung was forced to jettison a barge after it sustained a hull breach, lamenting the fact that it was company property and he would have to compensate for it. Determined to save the ship, Bung armed himself with his blaster and ventured into the barges to confront the creature. The Sullustan was startled by the lifeform as he searched for it, as it approached him from behind. After a brief pursuit, Bung found himself cornered by the Giant Amorphous Bantha Breakfast Biscuit. Certain that he was the creature's next meal, he was surprised when it became frightened and fled. Bung investigated the reason for the creature's sudden change in behavior and discovered that he was surrounded by boxes of blue sauce. Reasoning that the condiment, being the recommended accompaniment to a Bantha Breakfast Biscuit, was also the creature's weakness, Bung grabbed a tube of the sauce, confronted the Giant Amorphous Bantha Breakfast Biscuit, and squeezed the contents onto it, resulting in the creature's explosion.
Upon returning to the cockpit of the Gundark, Bung had to retrieve 42-RST, who had ejected in an escape pod in a self-preservation attempt. Bung assigned 42-RST the task of cleaning up the remains of the Giant Amorphous Bantha Breakfast Biscuit and noted that they would need to have the ship professionally cleaned and replace the lost cargo and barges. Despite the substantial profits earned from running Bantha Breakfast Biscuits, they would be fortunate to break even with the additional expenses. 42-RST inquired about the last remaining crate of Biscuits and what they should do with it. Bung had a special plan for the crate and allowed Captain Wankle to board the ship upon their return to Sullust. Bung willingly handed over the crate to Wankle, but apologized for not having any blue sauce to accompany it.

Bungo Bung possessed a trusting and gentle nature, typical of Sullustans. As a youth, he was a daydreamer who yearned to explore the stars. He was also known for his insatiable appetite and fondness for Bantha Breakfast Biscuits. His relationship with his droid co-pilot, 42-RST, was characterized by mild antagonism, with the droid often making sarcastic remarks towards him.
A loyal employee of SoroSuub Corporation, he was hesitant to engage in any activities that violated the company's established regulations, such as using the Chubby Gundark to transport non-approved products or jettisoning company property, even when the ship was in danger of destruction. He was unaware of the true relationship between the Empire and SoroSuub Corporation—the Sullustan company had an agreement in place with the Empire to protect its holdings and to ensure it prospered under the New Order. This arrangement had even led the Corporation to take control of the Sullust planetary government. Had Bung been aware of this, he would have been at the forefront of any opposition, primarily to alleviate any potential ulcers caused by the worry.
Bungo Bung was proficient with a blaster and possessed knowledge of alien species and planetary systems. As a qualified pilot, Bung was capable of flying and repairing space transports, and he had experience utilizing the weaponry aboard starships. He could also plot courses through space and hyperspace.
Bungo Bung typically wore black spacer's attire, complemented by a multi-pocketed sleeveless vest. He carried a hold-out blaster on his person, along with a comlink and datapad. He operated the Chubby Gundark, a Nyubba-class cargo barge driver, on behalf of the SoroSuub Corporation, his employer, and was the legal owner of 42-RST, his droid co-pilot. 42-RST came into his possession after Bung worked for the Mephout, who presented the droid as a gift. While Bung believed it to be a reward for his services, the Mephout were simply replacing outdated technology.
Bungo Bung was a character created by James Anderson for the story Bungo n' Rusti Get Carry-Out, which appeared in the Star Wars Adventure Journal 11, published by West End Games on November 1, 1996. Anderson both wrote and illustrated the story. Initially, Anderson intended to create a series of comic adventures featuring Bungo and Rusti, but this idea was abandoned due to Dark Horse Comics holding the exclusive comic license. Dark Horse overlooked the publication of Bungo n' Rusti Get Carry-Out as they considered it a one-off story. However, Anderson has created numerous appearances in the unlicensed Bungo n' Rusti stories, which can be found on TheForce.net and include Bungo n' Rusti Get the Record!, 101 Battle Neks, Bungo n' Rusti On Strike!, Castaways, Bungo n' Rusti Join the Rebellion?!! Part I, and Bungo n' Rusti Join the Rebellion?!! Part II.
