Biscuit Baron

The eatery known as Biscuit Baron was under the ownership of the House of Tagge, managed through the Tagge Company's Tagge Restaurant Association subsidiary. This restaurant chain had locations on numerous planets across the galaxy and, by the time the Galactic Empire rose to power, it had become the largest of its kind. You could find a Biscuit Baron on Sullust, at Byblos Starport, on Coruscant, and also on Commenor. Their menu included the Bantha Breakfast Biscuit, their special blue sauce, the alcoholic drink ardees, and meal deals like the QuickSnack, QuickSnackLite, and Jolly Meal. They also sold spot-on locators, which were modified to point customers to the nearest Biscuit Baron. During the month leading up to the Separatist Crisis and the Clone Wars, they offered commemorative holocubes that featured important figures from Republic history. Furthermore, the Bantha Breakfast Biscuit was central to the crisis on Gastrula, where it combined with the planet's atmosphere to create the Giant Amorphous Bantha Breakfast Biscuit.

Description

A Biscuit Baron restaurant on Sullust

Biscuit Baron was a dining establishment that provided a diverse selection of food items. Its restaurants were established on multiple inhabited planets, including the galactic capital of Coruscant, in addition to Sullust, Commenor, and Byblos. It became the largest restaurant chain in the galaxy during the reign of Emperor Palpatine and the Galactic Empire. However, Biscuit Baron did not have a presence everywhere, and Gastrula was one such location. Bungo Bung, an entrepreneurial Sullustan, capitalized on this by running a delivery business between these planets and Sullust, making substantial profits by selling Bantha Breakfast Biscuits along with blue sauce. Unfortunately, for the inhabitants of Gastrula, the planet's unique atmospheric conditions interacted with the biscuit's ingredients, resulting in the formation of a being that consumed the entire planet.

The restaurant's name originated from the title of the leading member of the House of Tagge. The logo, a stylized image of Baron Orman Tagge, who was the chairman of Tagge Company, was displayed on storefront signs and product crates. The logo was created after Tagge lost his sight in 18 BBY, and it features him wearing his signature goggles. The restaurant's name was written in the High Galactic alphabet on the logo. The Tagge Restaurant Association, a subsidiary of the Tagge Company, was in charge of managing the Biscuit Baron restaurants. During the Separatist Crisis, Roridan Temquill held the position of Chief Executive Officer at Biscuit Baron, and it was during this period that the "Heroes of the Republic" promotion was launched. Employees at the Biscuit Baron on Byblos, a world in the Colonies, wore hats and collared short-sleeved shirts.

Formal attire was not required for customers at Biscuit Baron. This aspect of the restaurant was used to describe individuals with unremarkable clothing, as Baron Administrator Lando Calrissian said of bounty hunter Thune. Many Biscuit Baron locations included airspeeder pick-up lanes, which allowed customers to conveniently order and receive their food without leaving their vehicles. However, the speakers in these lanes were known for their poor sound quality. On Sullust, the Biscuit Baron building had a cylindrical shape topped with a large dome, which displayed a large "B" in the High Galactic Alphabet for identification. A prominent sign featuring the Biscuit Baron logo and the High Galactic Alphabet was also placed outside the main building for further identification. Parking spaces for several landspeeders were available around the facility's perimeter. Byblos Starport Tower 214, a massive structure on Byblos with numerous amenities, housed a Biscuit Baron branch on each of its 300-plus levels. Each branch had multiple kitchens and a spacious dining area. These restaurants were popular among bulk freighter crews with limited funds and new captains. Biscuit Baron also gave away modified spot-on locators that provided the distance to the nearest Biscuit Baron in addition to their standard features.

Biscuit Baron presented its customers with a range of distinctive menu choices, notably the Bantha Breakfast Biscuits. Complementing these biscuits was the blue sauce, a condiment designed to enrich their flavor. Jolly Meals were also available, so well known that they were referenced in official documents. QuickSnacks and QuickSnackLites were introduced around the start of the Clone Wars in 22 BBY, accompanied by special promotional deals. Biscuit Barons offered ardees, an alcoholic drink, and were known for serving a good cup of it, as noted by private investigator Slyther Bushforb. Around the time of the Galactic Civil War, the food was so affordable that five credits could buy a substantial meal. Despite this, at least one guide described the food as bland. Biscuit Baron's food items, particularly the Bantha Breakfast Biscuit, had a long shelf life, lasting through Imperial detention and hyperspace travel between Sullust and Gastrula. Various species, including Sullustans, Wookiees, Rodians, and Arcona, could purchase Biscuit Baron products.

Bantha Breakfast Biscuit

The Bantha Breakfast Biscuit, beyond its impressive durability, is also known for an event that occurred on Gastrula. Specific preservatives within the biscuit interacted with the stale air of a starship and the Gastrulan atmosphere, triggering a transformation that turned the foodstuff into the semi-sentient Giant Amorphous Bantha Breakfast Biscuit. This creature demonstrated the ability to consume entire planets, as it did with Gastrula, as well as the hull plating and systems of a cargo barge. However, it could be defeated by applying large quantities of blue sauce, which led to its demise.

Promotional deals

During the period leading up to the Clone Wars, Biscuit Baron locations across the galaxy offered commemorative holocubes with QuickSnack and QuickSnackLite meals as part of their "Heroes of the Republic" campaign. While aimed at younger audiences, CEO Roridan Temquill hoped that everyone would learn from the informational holocubes. These holocubes featured notable historical figures from the Republic, such as Supreme Chancellors Anwis Eddicus and Vaila Pecivas. Certain Jedi Masters, like S'diawae, Ikrit, and Jojighar, were also included. The promotion lasted for one standard month and varied slightly by region.

Biscuit Baron establishments on heavily populated planets distributed spot-on locators, which could be used for navigation in unfamiliar areas. These modified units would announce the distance to the nearest Biscuit Baron, in addition to their usual functions.

History

Patrons line up to purchase food at a Biscuit Baron in Byblos Starport

As early as 22 BBY, Biscuit Baron was under the ownership of the Tagge Company, through its Tagge Restaurant Association subsidiary. During this time, Roridan Temquill was the company's CEO. It was also during this time that Biscuit Barons started offering promotional holocubes, titled "Heroes of the Republic," to educate people about important figures in Republic history. By the time leading up to and continuing into the Galactic Civil War, around 0 BBY, Biscuit Baron had become the largest dining establishment in the galaxy. Its ubiquity in the galaxy led to colloquial references to it in official documents.

Within Shoola's Ring on the space station Port Tooga, a chef was inspired by an archway playing a nonsensical message that ended with the sounds "bikkik barran." This chef then leased the space and established Biscuit Barren, a restaurant that borrowed the name and iconography of Biscuit Baron. Biscuit Barren developed a better reputation than the TaggeCo chain, particularly for its breakfast sandwiches and shakes.

Behind the scenes

The concept of a galaxy-spanning restaurant chain was initially presented in the Han Solo and the Corporate Sector Sourcebook by Michael Allen Horne, published in 1993, where it took shape as Biscuit Baron. Subsequently, Biscuit Baron was mentioned in various sources until its debut in the Bungo n' Rusti Get Carry-Out comic by Jim Anderson, featured in Star Wars Adventure Journal 11 in 1996. It remained unmentioned until Pablo Hidalgo and Paul Ens's work on the HoloNet News entries published in 2002. Since then, a sourcebook and other sources have used the name.
