Mikka Reekeene

title: Mikka Reekeene

Mikka Reekeene, originating from 59 BBY, was a Human male engineer and also a mechanic. His employment was with Sartran Corporation until the Galactic Empire took him into custody, accusing him of treason. While jailed, Reekeene encountered and married Lens, who was the leader of a group of mercenaries. After his release, Reekeene seized the opportunity to liberate Lens.

After freeing his wife, Reekeene then enlisted in the Alliance to Restore the Republic and took on the role of Lens' second-in-command within Reekeene's Roughnecks, a resistance group that disrupted Imperial actions in the Fakir sector. As Lens advanced to the rank of general while still commanding the Roughnecks, Reekeene found himself in the position of an engineer at the Roughneck's mobile base, the starship Home, where he customized it.

Biography

Born in 59 BBY, Mikka Reekeene was a Human male. Upon reaching adulthood, he pursued careers as both an engineer and mechanic, working for the Sartran Corporation until 14 BBY. In that year, the ruling Galactic Empire shut down the company, alleging its involvement in acts of treason. Consequently, Reekeene was arrested and imprisoned, where he crossed paths with Lens, a former mercenary leader who had been employed in a garrison for Sartran before the Empire falsely accused and arrested her. Reekeene and Lens later married while incarcerated.

Eventually, Reekeene was released due to an administrative error within the prison system. After gaining his freedom, he dedicated his time to acquiring money through any means possible in order to secure his wife's release, which he accomplished in 3 BBY. Following her escape, Lens discovered that the majority of the mercenaries under her command had perished in prison. Driven by a desire for vengeance, Lens joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic, with the intention of establishing a military force capable of challenging the Imperials. To safeguard his wife, Reekeene also joined the Alliance, although he was less politically involved than she was.

Before long, Lens rose to the position of a high-ranking officer within the Alliance, and Reekeene remained at her side as her advisor. At some point, the Reekeenes were approached by Santhou Lazith'chika, a mysterious alien who successfully earned their trust. Lazith'chika became Mikka's primary advisor and Lens' second primary advisor. Subsequently, the Reekeenes and Lazith'chika established Reekeene's Roughnecks, a guerrilla organization that harassed Imperial forces within the Fakir sector. Their objective was to draw Imperial attention, thereby diverting the Empire's resources away from engaging the Alliance main fleet.

The Reekeenes and Lazith'chika held the highest positions within the Roughnecks, briefing members of sub-teams and addressing any inquiries. As a security protocol, once briefed on a mission, a member of the Roughnecks was prohibited from communicating with anyone except for the Reekeenes or Lazith'chika until their task was completed. As the co-leader of the Roughnecks, Mikka utilized his empathy and caution as a counterbalance to his wife's aggressiveness. Mikka, who also served as the chief engineer of the Roughnecks, modified their mobile headquarters, the water hauler Home, by incorporating a concealed cargo hold in the starboard port. Mikka and Lens were the only individuals privy to the Home's course at any given moment. While the majority of Roughnecks members wore a colored armpatch to identify their squad, the Reekeenes donned white patches to signify their roles as commanding officers.

Around 0 ABY, a silent Reekeene accompanied his wife, Lazith'chika, and Rebel Lieutenant Am Serro aboard the Home to listen to the report from special operative Tay "Tiree" Vanis' twentieth operation. Vanis had been unsuccessful in recruiting new agents and had also reached the mission limit before mandatory retirement. Nevertheless, Lens assigned him to a new task, and neither Mikka nor the other officers raised any objections.

Personality and traits

Mikka Reekeene was both an engineer and a mechanic, specializing in the upkeep of space transports, repulsor drives, and starfighters, while also possessing some skill in piloting transports. He typically wore overalls and often carried tools and switches that he would occasionally forget about while traveling. His greatest aspiration was to develop a hyperspace alternator sequencing module. As one of the few Humans capable of speaking the Shyriiwook language, Reekeene also had a tendency to speak with a thick, difficult-to-understand accent, especially when under stress.

Reekeene was married to Lens Reekeene and undertook various tasks solely for her benefit, such as joining the Rebel Alliance. Lens, often perceived as cold and distant, displayed more warmth towards her husband. Mikka was well-regarded among the Roughnecks for his ability to empathize with and understand the feelings of others, as well as for his cautious foresight. As of 0 ABY, Mikka was sixty years old and overweight, but remained in relatively good physical condition. He also sported a full beard at this time.

Behind the scenes

Mikka Reekeene made his debut appearance in the roleplaying book Star Wars Campaign Pack, authored by Paul Murphy and published by West End Games in 1988. The book provided details on "The Long Shot Campaign," a series of adventures for players set within the Fakir sector. The Long Shot Campaign was later re-released in 1994, accompanied by another campaign, in Classic Campaigns. Reekeene was first visually depicted in the 2006 webcomic Rookies: Rendezvous by Pablo Hidalgo.
