The Mindharp of Sharu features in a tale Lando Calrissian recounted, which occurred before his journey alongside Han Solo in 10 BBY. This caper was embellished by Calrissian as one of his Calrissian Chronicles stories. He and his droid companion L3-37 were granted access to view the Mindharp within the depths of the sacred temple of Sharu.

The canon inclusion of the Mindharp of Sharu occurred in the 2018 reference work Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide authored by Pablo Hidalgo. Its initial appearance was in the 1983 Star Wars Legends novel Lando Calrissian and the Mindharp of Sharu, which formed part of The Lando Calrissian Adventures trilogy. Within that narrative, it was a fabled instrument employed by the Toka race, also referred to as the Sharu, enabling them to recover the understanding of their previous civilization following the resolution of a global threat.
