During the time of the Galactic Civil War, not long after the Battle of Yavin, Admiral Gial Ackbar of the Alliance to Restore the Republic dispatched Luke Skywalker, accompanied by R2-D2, on a mission to the planet Rodia. Skywalker's objective was to establish a clandestine supply route for the Rebel Alliance, dealing with smuggling. Princess Leia believed that the Chekkoo clan, manufacturers of weapons and armaments, might be open to assisting the Rebel Alliance in an effort to depose the Chattza clan, the ruling power closely aligned with the Galactic Empire, as the two clans were rivals.
