Mission to the Arc Hammer

The Arc Hammer Mission, a crucial event of the Galactic Civil War, involved Kyle Katarn, a mercenary, dismantling the Dark Trooper Project.

Background

Following the swift destruction of Tak Base by the dark troopers, the Galactic Empire's advanced super-soldiers, Mon Mothma enlisted Kyle Katarn to intervene.

He embarked on a quest across the galaxy, gathering information about the troopers and how to neutralize them. After acquiring a nava card from Nar Shaddaa and pinpointing the Arc Hammer's location, Katarn traveled to the Imperial Fuel Station Ergo, where he boarded the Executor before infiltrating the Hammer.

The Operation

Planting Explosives

Katarn gained access to the Arc Hammer via an automated cargo pod. From the cargo hold, he fought his way through the internal defenses. His goal was to set three sequencer charges in 3 vent ports to destroy the vessel and escape using a Lambda-class T-4a shuttle. He navigated the factory ship's intricate corridors and successfully placed the charges. Kyle cleared the hangar bay of dark troopers and opened the shuttle bay doors.

There, he encountered a massive, armored dark figure.

The Decisive Confrontation

General Rom Mohc, the mastermind behind the dark troopers, challenged Katarn while wearing his Phase III dark trooper exosuit, the most advanced of the super-trooper models; only 3 were ever produced. The two battled fiercely in the hangar, each suffering significant injuries.

In a final, desperate attempt to breach the exosuit's armor, Katarn unleashed a barrage of beams and mortars. Mohc's powersuit malfunctioned and detonated, obliterating his body.

The dark trooper project's architect was defeated in combat.

The Getaway

With Mohc eliminated, Kyle made his way to the hangar, commandeered an evacuation Lambda-class T-4a shuttle, and fled the doomed ship.

The ship's launch bays detonated, igniting the fuel reserves and consuming the entire vessel in flames. Kyle had effectively ended the dark trooper project.

Darth Vader, observing the mercenary's escape from afar, was the first to sense the Force within Katarn.

Consequences

Mon Mothma presented Katarn with the Star of Alderaan in recognition of his courage and support for the Rebel Alliance.

Still enraged by the loss of the first Death Star, Emperor Palpatine was so incensed by the destruction of the Arc Hammer that he terminated all funding for the dark troopers. Although the majority of the dark trooper project was discontinued, some weaker dark troopers remained active throughout the remainder of the Galactic Civil War.

The Empire's subsequent responses to the Rebellion included the TIE Experimental Project and the TIE/ph phantom project.
