The monzu, a carnivorous species, inhabited the planet Zolan. An increase in solar radiation emanating from Zolan's sun triggered the development of adaptive abilities in the monzu and several other species on Zolan, allowing them to modify their skin color and reshape their bodies. While many of Zolan's native organisms died during this surge, the monzu, among other survivors, underwent significant evolutionary changes due to the elevated radiation until it returned to normal levels.
Within current Star Wars canon, the monzu received a mention in No Disintegrations, a 2018 expansion for Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, a role-playing game by Fantasy Flight Games. The monzu's debut occurred within the Star Wars Legends timeline, specifically in "The University of Sanbra Guide to Intelligent Life: The Clawdites," an article featured in the tenth issue of Star Wars Gamer magazine, released on May 7, 2002.
