Nap Lagard

Nap Lagard was a male Neimoidian commander of a starship within the Trade Federation's ranks. Back in 32 BBY, he was in charge of the Lucrehulk-class freighter known as the Acquisitor, which was positioned within the Outer Rim Territories. During that specific year, the Trade Federation freighter Revenue, another Lucrehulk-class ship, was subjected to an attack by Nebula Front terrorists while it was over the planet of Dorvalla. Responding to a distress call from Captain Daultay Dofine, Lagard used the Acquisitor to successfully repel the Nebula Front forces. After rescuing Dofine from an escape pod, Lagard participated in a discussion with Viceroy Nute Gunray of the Trade Federation, which ultimately led to Dofine assuming command of the Acquisitor.

Biography

Daultay Dofine, whom Lagard rescued over Dorvalla and who later replaced Lagard as captain of the Acquisitor

Nap Lagard was a male Neimoidian who served the Trade Federation in the closing decades of the Galactic Republic. Back in 32 BBY, he held command of the heavily-armed Lucrehulk-class freighter known as the Acquisitor, which was stationed within the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy. During this time, the Revenue, another Trade Federation Lucrehulk freighter carrying a valuable collection of aurodium ingots, was attacked above the planet of Dorvalla by the Nebula Front, a terrorist organization. The Revenue's Captain, Daultay Dofine, sent out a distress call requesting assistance, and Lagard responded by maneuvering his ship to the Dorvalla system to engage the Nebula Front troops and salvage as much of the Revenue's cargo as possible.

Upon reaching the Dorvalla system, Lagard and his well-equipped ship quickly defeated the Nebula Front forces, with the exception of the Hawk-Bat, the flagship of Arwen Cohl, a mercenary aligned with the Nebula Front. After the Hawk-Bat also withdrew, a subordinate informed Lagard that they had received a signal originating from Dofine's escape pod. Dofine immediately instructed Lagard to get in touch with Viceroy Nute Gunray of the Trade Federation, although he did not explain his reasoning to Lagard. Dofine also informed Lagard that Cohl, who had boarded the Revenue during the battle and made off with its cargo in another escape pod, had rigged the ship to explode. After the Acquisitor picked up Dofine, Lagard himself—accompanied by a mechno-chair for communicating with Gunray—greeted Dofine. During their subsequent conversation, Dofine reported the loss of the Revenue and its cargo. Nevertheless, Gunray ordered Dofine to relieve Lagard of his command of the Acquisitor and depart from the area.

Personality and traits

Nap Lagard possessed the skills necessary to command a Trade Federation vessel, and he effectively repelled the Nebula Front forces above Dorvalla. Like the majority of Trade Federation members, he harbored a strong dislike for the Nebula Front and was eager to eliminate the threat they posed. With this aim, he intended to compel Dorvalla to provide compensation for the attack on the Trade Federation. The Commander was inquisitive about the information Dofine wished to convey to Gunray, but Dofine dismissed his inquiries. Lagard responded swiftly by posing a humiliating question to his colleague regarding the fate of Dofine's ship, despite already knowing that Dofine had lost the Revenue.

Behind the scenes

Nap Lagard made his debut in Cloak of Deception, a 2001 novel authored by James Luceno. The name "Nap Lagard" was referenced in the "Standard Game" mode of Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, a video game released in 2001 by LucasArts, as well as its 2002 sequel, Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns, where he is featured as one of the randomly selected leaders for the Trade Federation. However, considering that he does not actually appear in the original Galactic Battlegrounds, and the mention of "Nap Lagard" is merely a randomly generated name, this article considers his appearance in the game as non-canon.
