Neimoidian Throne

A Neimoidan Throne represented the pinnacle of Trade Federation culture; these structures were a type of building conceived by the Trade Federation. They were constructed from substantial amounts of carbon, nova crystals, and ore, taking the form of a square base adorned with four curved spikes at each of its corners. During the invasion of Naboo in 32 BBY, the Trade Federation erected two Neimoidian Thrones on the planet. One was erected in the Palace Plaza before Theed Royal Palace during the fall of the capital city, while the other was erected amidst the ruins of the city of Spinnaker before being destroyed by the Gungan Grand Army.

Description

The Trade Federation, led by members of the Neimoidian species, was known for its large monument known as the Neimoidian Throne. These thrones were built using copious amounts of carbon, nova crystals, and ore. The Neimoidian Throne was a representation of the Trade Federation's highest achievements in art, culture, and technology. This square structure featured brown plating that ascended on all sides, converging at the structure's center, with a black strip running down the center of each side. At each corner, tall, pointed spikes curved inward, rising above the base structure. Additionally, two smaller, tusk-like decorations were positioned near the throne's center.

History

In 32 BBY, the Trade Federation, during their Invasion of Naboo, built a pair of Neimoidian Thrones on the Mid Rim planet of Naboo. During the Fall of Theed, when the Trade Federation Droid Army seized control of Theed, the Human capital city of Naboo, Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray gave B1-Series battle droid OOM-9 the order to construct a Neimoidian Throne adjacent to Theed Royal Palace. Gunray's intention was to demonstrate the Trade Federation's dominance and undermine the morale of the Naboo people through the erection of the throne.

After OOM-9's forces successfully destroyed a signal jammer, Gunray deployed six OX9 labor droids to Theed for the purpose of building the throne. Once the battle droids had secured the area surrounding Theed Palace, Gunray dispatched the necessary resources to the droids, instructing them to use the resources solely for the throne's construction. The labor droids proceeded to construct the throne in the Palace Plaza, while OOM-9's army defended the construction site from the Royal Naboo Security Forces. Upon completion of the structure, Gunray commended OOM-9 for his successful capture of Theed.

A second Neimoidian Throne was erected in the ruins of Spinnaker, a city that the Trade Federation had captured and occupied before the Fall of Theed. This throne was fortified by three heavy turrets, a heavy anti-air turret, and a shield generator. When the Gungan Grand Army sought to free Gungan and Naboo prisoners from Camp 14 near Spinnaker, its leader, Boss Rugor Nass, decided to attack the occupied city and demolish the Neimoidian Throne. Despite the Droid Army's significant forces assigned to protect the throne, they were overwhelmed by the Gungans, who destroyed the throne and replaced it with a Gungan Temple.

The Neimoidian Throne in the non-canon Gungan level

The Neimoidian Thrones made their debut in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, a video game by LucasArts, on November 11, 2001. They were introduced in Prima Games' strategy guide by Steven L. Kent, released on November 7. These structures serve as the Trade Federation's Monument, a type of building that, under certain standard game mode conditions, can secure victory for the player if it remains intact for two hundred in-game days. Typically, Monuments require 3000 units each of carbon, nova crystals, and ore. However, this cost can be reduced to 2850 units each through upgrades available at spaceports exclusive to the Trade Federation civilization. These upgrades, named "Neimoidian Endorsement" and "Market Insider Trading," reduce building costs by 5% and 10%, respectively.

Neimoidian Thrones are featured in several levels of the Galactic Battlegrounds campaigns. Notably, in "Capturing the Crown," the fourth level of the Trade Federation campaign, the player is tasked with constructing a Monument after gaining control of the Theed Royal Palace grounds to achieve victory. Nute Gunray provides the player with precisely 2850 units of carbon, nova crystals, and ore for building the Neimoidian Throne. The level is automatically lost if the player constructs any buildings other than the throne or if the Naboo destroy the building before its completion. The Prima guide suggests that the player eliminate the Naboo's military structures as their army advances through Theed to minimize attacks on the Monument later.

The Gungans destroy the Theed Neimoidian throne in a non-canon level.

Another Neimoidian Throne appears in "The Chains Are Broken," the fifth level of the Gungan campaign, where the player must destroy it to complete the level. Subsequently, they are required to build their own Monument on the site of the destroyed Neimoidian Throne. The Neimoidian Throne in Theed makes a reappearance in "The Battle for Theed," the seventh and final level of the Gungan campaign. This level is considered non-canon within the Star Wars Legends continuity, depicting a hypothetical scenario in which the Gungan Grand Army defeated the Trade Federation Droid Army at the Great Grass Plains, rather than being saved by Anakin Skywalker, as portrayed in the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. To complete the level, the player must lead their army through Theed and destroy the Neimoidian Throne. The strategy guide recommends using cerrabores, the Gungan equivalent of pummels, for this task. The throne is defended by one medium turret and three anti-air turrets.
