The New Republic Advisory Council functioned as an advising body for the Chief of State of the New Republic, consisting of senators elected to the New Republic Senate. Its establishment occurred sometime between the ratification of the Bastion Accords and the outbreak of the Yuuzhan Vong War, with its members occupying an elevated platform within the New Republic Senate chamber.
This Advisory Council included both the Chief of State and senators representing the most strategically significant sectors within the New Republic. While no formal requirements or fixed membership list existed, it was generally assumed that Corellia, Sullust, and Mon Calamari would consistently hold seats due to their respective worlds' substantial contributions to the New Republic Defense Force. Furthermore, Alderaan was expected to be represented, owing to the widespread public sympathy for the survivors of its destruction.
During Borsk Fey'lya's presidency, the Council initially comprised six Senators. However, as the Yuuzhan Vong War progressed, two additional positions were created for Kuati Senator Viqi Shesh and Rodian Senator Navik. These additions were met with controversy, as Shesh's appointment was perceived as a concession to the Kuati, and Navik was regarded by many as a war criminal.

The Advisory Council was disbanded following the conquest of Coruscant by the Yuuzhan Vong and Borsk Fey'lya's act of self-sacrifice. Cal Omas later re-established it, and it continued to wield significant executive powers as the Galactic Alliance Advisory Council, although its authority was shared with the High Council established by President Omas.
