Nield

Nield was a Human male from the planet Melida/Daan; he rose to prominence as one of the adolescent leaders of the Young. This youth organization played a pivotal role in ending the civil war that ravaged Melida and Daan. Nield was known for his demanding leadership style, especially in how he disciplined the other children. The death of his ally, Cerasi, ignited a deep-seated hatred within Nield towards his comrade, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Following the conclusion of the civil war, the two managed to reconcile to some degree, and Nield assumed a position as one of the three primary leaders of Melida/Daan.

Biography

Nield's origins lay with the Daan people. During the civil war, his family suffered immense loss; his mother, Leidra, his father, Micae, and his three brothers all perished when he was just a child. An older cousin took him in, but she also succumbed to the war's devastation. Orphaned and alone, Nield roamed the streets of Zehava until he encountered Cerasi, a Melida girl. Together, they resolved to unite the Daan and Melida orphans, creating the Young, an organization dedicated to fighting for peace.

After a period of employing guerrilla warfare tactics, the Young assisted the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, in rescuing their fellow Jedi Tahl. Subsequently, Kenobi chose to remain and fight alongside the Young. Under the joint leadership of Nield and Cerasi, the Young achieved victory in the war and established a government. Nield was elected governor and head of the New History Squad, an organization that commenced the demolition of the Halls of Evidence. Cerasi and Kenobi began to question the wisdom of destroying Melida/Daan's history, regardless of its violent nature, and intervened to halt the destruction.

Nield perceived their actions as a betrayal. Accusing Kenobi of being an outsider, he attempted to garner enough support to depose the council. Tensions escalated as armed elders and Nield's followers converged on the Halls of Evidence. Kenobi and Cerasi arrived to prevent violence, but Cerasi, unarmed, was fatally shot.

Cerasi's death profoundly affected both Nield and Kenobi, but Nield placed blame on Kenobi for his perceived slow response, largely out of fear that he himself had fired the fatal shot. Shortly thereafter, Qui-Gon Jinn returned to Melida/Daan and, together with Kenobi, investigated Cerasi's murder. They uncovered that Mawat, a member of the Young, had armed both factions and positioned sharpshooters at the scene, who were responsible for Cerasi's death. Upon learning this from Obi-Wan, Nield joined him in an attempt to stop the war being waged in Cerasi's name, though they failed to prevent the violence. Qui-Gon then arrived and presented a holo of Cerasi advocating for peace. Qui-Gon successfully negotiated a cease-fire, and Nield was appointed as one of the three leaders of the planet.
