The Nightlands represented a specific place. Lourna Dee, a Twi'lek Tempest Runner belonging to the Nihil pirates, used the phrase "damned to the Nightlands" as an insult directed towards Eye of the Nihil Marchion Ro, expressing her disapproval of him.
Behind the scenes
The initial canonically reference to the Nightlands occurred within the 2022 audio drama titled The High Republic: Tempest Runner. This drama was authored by Cavan Scott as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multi-platform narrative. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Nightlands were established as the perpetually dark side of Ryloth, the Twi'lek homeworld, which was tidally locked. Their debut was in the 1997 junior novel Young Jedi Knights: Jedi Bounty, penned by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta for the Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights series. However, the canon version of Ryloth, as initially shown in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, is not tidally locked.
