The Old Research Facility, alternatively called the Old Republic Facility, existed as a research center on the planet of Mustafar. Its origins trace back to the era of the Old Republic. Whispers suggested it was populated by bizarre lifeforms and hostile guardian droids.
In the course of the Galactic Civil War, the droid designated HK-47 relocated his programming to this very facility. He then hired someone to bring the facility's energy systems online, and subsequently journey to the droid factory to reactivate it.
The Old Research Facility was featured in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game created by Sony Online Entertainment and released by LucasArts, before the game's servers were shut down on December 15, 2011. The Old Research Facility became part of the game when the expansion pack Trials of Obi-Wan was launched on November 1, 2005.
