The Outrider made its debut within the new Star Wars canon in the 2018 reference book titled YT-1300 Millennium Falcon Owners' Workshop Manual, authored by Ryder Windham. Originally, it was conceived for the 1996 Star Wars Legends project, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, functioning as Dash Rendar's personal spacecraft. Subsequently, it appeared in the 1997 Special Edition of A New Hope, where it is visible taking off from Mos Eisley shortly after Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, C-3PO, and R2-D2 arrive at the spaceport.
