Perlemia, a notable industrial world, was situated within the Perlemia system located in the Core Worlds. It gained renown as a location of significant orbital shipyards. The starshipwrights of Perlemia were responsible for the construction of numerous scout ships that played a crucial role in the charting of the hyperlane. This hyperlane, following the signing of the Corellian Treaty in 25,000 BBY, would later become recognized as one of the two official borders defining the Slice region. Consequently, this hyperlane was then referred to as the Perlemian Trade Route.
At approximately the time when the Tionese War commenced, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Honorable Union of Desevro and Tion that began in 24,000 BBY, the Republic, having belatedly recognized the danger posed by Tionese raiders, initiated an accelerated program to produce warships, with Perlemia's shipyards contributing to this effort. However, this endeavor proved insufficient, as Tionese ships deployed innovative weapons known as pressure bombs, resulting in the near-total destruction of Perlemia's facilities.
The world of Perlemia was first presented to the audience in The Essential Guide to Warfare, a reference book released in 2012 and authored by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart. The reference book The Essential Atlas, which came out in 2009, situated the Perlemia system, and therefore the world of Perlemia, within grid square L-9.
