A power wrench was a specific kind of wrench utilized for vehicle upkeep. During the Boonta Eve Classic race on Tatooine in 32 BBY, one of Ody Mandrell's DUM-series pit droid maintenance team members was observed carrying a power wrench. This occurred when Mandrell entered the pit stop at the Mos Espa Grand Arena during the second lap of the race on the planet.
The droid with the wrench got close to Mandrell in the podracer's cockpit. However, before the maintenance team could start any repairs, their fellow worker DUM-4 was unfortunately pulled into one of Manderell's podracer's engines. This resulted in the destruction of the engine, which stopped the racer from continuing in the race.
The power wrench made its debut in the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace from the prequel trilogy. Within the new Star Wars canon, the tool's identification initially happened in the 2016 reference book Star Wars Character Encyclopedia: Updated and Expanded, authored by Pablo Hidalgo. Conversely, in the Star Wars Legends timeline, the power wrench's first appearance occurred in the 1976 novelization of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, penned by Alan Dean Foster.
