Podracers were a type of repulsorcraft engineered specifically for racing.
Designed as racing vehicles, Podracers were repulsorcraft. These vehicles were used in the sport of podracing and could hit speeds exceeding 700 kilometers per hour. The P-100 pick-up droid was created to salvage valuable parts from crashed podracers, transporting them to the storage area of a P-100 Salvage Droid. Podracers had diverse designs, but generally consisted of a single-occupant cockpit pulled by a pair of engines connected via cables.

Ben Quadinaros's podracer was unique, featuring four engines attached to the cockpit. Another unusual design was that of Neva Kee's podracer, a single, solid unit with the cockpit at the front. Owners could customize their podracers. The Dug pilot Sebulba, for example, illegally installed a flamethrower on his racer. Anakin Skywalker piloted a heavily modified podracer that he constructed, at least in part, from scratch. Other examples include the Ord Pedrovia, piloted by Gasgano, and the Vulptereen 327, piloted by Dud Bolt. Clegg Holdfast, a pilot, flew a red KT9 Wasp, a podracer made by Keizar-Volvec.
By the time the Galactic Empire fell, podracing had waned in popularity and was banned by the New Republic. Consequently, podracer engines were often repurposed. Cobb Vanth's speeder, for instance, used a podracer engine. Some engines were even used for cooking meat.
The sounds created for the podracers in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace were later reused for the speeders on Jakku in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.
