Clegg Holdfast

Clegg Holdfast was a Nosaurian male journalist employed by Podracing Quarterly, in addition to being a podracer pilot. He participated in the Boonta Eve Classic during the Invasion of Naboo. He proudly displayed his podracing medals, despite his peers considering him a better journalist than racer. Holdfast piloted a KT9 Wasp podracer manufactured by Voltec, and he began the race in the first row. While his mechanics worked on his podracer, Holdfast, true to his profession as a journalist, looked for scandalous stories in the cantina located within the hangar of the Mos Espa Grand Arena. Unfortunately, Holdfast did not finish the Boonta Eve Classic, as his podracer's engines were obliterated by flames emitted from Sebulba's flame-jets during the second lap, causing him to crash.

Behind the scenes

The character of Clegg Holdfast was initially conceived for the 1999 movie Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, but his first appearance was in the Star Wars Legends novelization of the film. In the film's theatrical version, Holdfast's presence was limited to a brief glimpse inside his podracer's cockpit. The DVD release included newly created scenes showing Holdfast on the starting grid and his podracer being destroyed by his rival, Sebulba. Early concept art from Terryl Whitlatch depicted Holdfast with fur covering his body, a detail that was ultimately omitted from the final character design. A Clegg Holdfast action figure was later produced by Hasbro in 2009. This figure included detachable goggles and a blaster pistol. He was subsequently re-released as part of a multi-pack featuring other podracer pilots. This pack contained his blaster, goggles, a flag, a display base, and a trading card.
