New Plympto, situated within the Core Worlds, held significance as the original homeworld of the Nosaurian species. Furthermore, it provided a safe world for Senator Mon Mothma's organized rebellion against the Galactic Empire. This rebellion was subsequently officialized and became known as the Rebel Alliance. In proximity to New Plympto, the Alliance strategically placed a device on a HoloNet satellite. This device successfully intercepted a top-secret communication in 0 BBY between Imperial General Hurst Romodi and Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin.
Located in the Core Worlds, New Plympto was a planet of terrestrial nature.

By 2 BBY, New Plympto functioned as a protected haven, or safe world, for the organized rebellion against the Galactic Empire, secretly under the direction of Senator Mon Mothma. A galactic map created for Mothma during that year highlighted this, marking the safe worlds, starfighter hubs rated level five or higher, operational headquarters, shadow planets, and hidden space caches utilized by the rebellion. Later in that same year, Mothma formally officialized the rebellion, renaming it the Rebel Alliance. The Alliance strategically installed a device on a HoloNet network satellite that was situated close to New Plympto.
In 0 BBY, the rebel device intercepted a highly classified and encrypted Imperial message transmitted via the satellite near New Plympto. This message originated from Imperial General Hurst Romodi and was addressed to Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin. In the message, the general reported a security breach involving data related to the Empire's DS-1 Death Star Mobile Battle Station, and urged the grand moff to immediately suppress political and military dissent. Colonel Haxen Delto of the Rebel Alliance decrypted the message and forwarded it to General Airen Cracken, who then documented the findings in an official report to Mothma from the vicinity of New Plympto.
This report, along with the map detailing the rebellion's locations, was archived by archivist Hendri Underholt within a collection of non-electronic documents titled The Rebel Files. Furthermore, New Plympto was referenced in an entry within an artist's journal focusing on the Nosaurian species. This journal was later restored, expanded upon, and put on display in the Graf Archive at some point after 34 ABY.
New Plympto served as the original homeworld for the Nosaurians, a sentient species known for their irritable nature and prominent horns. Among the Nosaurians hailing from New Plympto was Clegg Holdfast, who later pursued careers as a journalist and podracer pilot.

The initial mention of New Plympto within current Star Wars canon occurred in the 2015 reference book Ultimate Star Wars. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, the planet New Plympto was initially referenced in the 2000 reference book titled Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Episode I, authored by Kristin Lund. Its first visual representation appeared on a 2001 map of the Star Wars galaxy, designed by James King and Laurence Butler, and included with the first issue of The Official Star Wars Fact File magazine. New Plympto's debut in the Star Wars: Republic comic series occurred in the seventy-ninth issue, penned by Welles Hartley, illustrated by Douglas Wheatley, and released by Dark Horse Comics on November 9, 2005.
