The Prime Gate, located on Dathomir, served as the main Star Temple and contained the Infinity Gate; it was a very old construction.
Long before the Old Republic came into being, the Kwa, an ancient race of saurian beings inhabiting Dathomir, built it. The Infinity Gate was utilized by the Kwa for interstellar travel and as a weapon.
To prevent unauthorized access, the Star Temple, along with its surrounding structures, defended the Infinity Gate. Should the gate ever be activated, the planet containing the equipment, along with the surrounding celestial bodies such as moons, planets, and even stars, would be drawn into the Gate. As the Kwa's influence diminished across the galaxy in an inexplicable way, they secured the Infinity Gate and the Star Temples, assigning guardians – remarkably swift whuffa worms with tough exteriors – to safeguard the Temples.
The Nightsisters managed to seize the Prime Gate in 31 BBY, killing numerous Kwi in the process. The Nightsisters planned to unlock the Infinity Gate's secrets and obliterate Coruscant with it. However, Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos foiled their scheme by using his position as Temple Guardian to turn the destructive wave intended for Coruscant back onto the Prime Gate. The Star Temple and the Infinity Gate were reduced to scattered remains. Furthermore, the Kwi vanished into the desert landscapes.
