The Infinity Gate, a network of ancient structures, was engineered by the saurian Kwa species hailing from Dathomir during the Pre-Republic era. These structures facilitated near-instantaneous interstellar journeys across vast distances and possessed the potential for use as a superweapon.

The Infinity Gates, utilizing what the Kwa referred to as the "power of the cosmos," were capable of transporting individuals throughout the galaxy or unleashing destructive Infinity Waves. Access to the Gates was gained through a Star Chamber, situated within colossal pyramidal constructions known as Star Temples.
The Star Temples, along with their surrounding buildings, incorporated traps designed to safeguard the Chambers from unauthorized entry. Within the Star Chamber existed a "realm of infinity," a contained dimension housing the central control station responsible for managing the "power of infinity."

During the Pre-Republic era, the Kwa brought the Infinity Gates into existence, their design drawing inspiration from a Celestial principle. These Gates empowered the Kwa to establish colonies on various worlds within their region of space. However, their territorial expansion led to clashes with the Gree Enclave, who had developed similar transportation technology called hypergates.
As the Kwa's influence diminished across the galaxy, they sealed off the Infinity Gates and the Star Temples, assigning guardians to protect the realm of infinity—specifically, whuffa worms characterized by their tough hides and remarkable speed. Following their annihilation by the Rakatan Infinite Empire and the subsequent conquest of Dathomir, the surviving Kwa underwent a regression, evolving into the primitive and semi-sentient Kwi.
In 31 BBY, the Nightsisters seized control of a local Star Temple, resulting in the massacre of numerous Kwi. The Nightsisters sought to unlock the secrets of the Infinity Gate with the intention of obliterating Coruscant. Nevertheless, their scheme was thwarted by the Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos, who, acting as Temple Guardian, redirected the lethal wave aimed at Coruscant back towards the Infinity Gate. The only remnants were the scattered ruins of the Star Temples. The Kwi also vanished into the deserts.
In 12 ABY, Sigit Ranth conducted an investigation of the Star Temple on Dathomir on behalf of the Imperial Remnant, but after discovering no trace of the Star Chamber, he abandoned the undertaking, while the Remnant shifted its focus to recruiting Nightsisters as part of Project Nightsaber.
