Protectorate, functioning as a component within the Order division of the Pentastar Alignment, assumed responsibilities previously held by the Ubiqtorate's Internal Security Branch alongside those of the Imperial Guard Corps. Their primary focus centered around safeguarding Alignment personnel and its resources. Instead of recruiting from the typical Army or Navy forces, Protectorate primarily sourced its personnel from ex-CompForce units. Both the techniques used in training and the methods of operation were closely guarded secrets. Protectorate operatives were ranked numerically, starting at "10" for the most common soldiers and going down to "1," a rank reserved for the elite Guardians tasked with protecting members of the Chamber of Order. Commanders were given the designation "0".
