The Pui-ui species (pronounced /ˈpui-'ui/) originated from Kyryll's World. These sentient beings possessed small bodies composed of two spheres linked by a stubby neck. Cilia extended from the lower sphere, enabling locomotion. This species played a role in galactic affairs during the early Galactic Empire era, maintaining luxurious amenities at the University of Rudrig and having their medical information incorporated into the programming of 2-1B surgical droids.

The Pui-uies were a diminutive sentient species that hailed from a planet called Kyryll's World, situated within the Phelleem sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Their physical form consisted of two spheres connected by a neck measuring approximately 0.5 meters; they could reach a height of up to 1.25 meters. The bottom sphere was covered in numerous cilia, which the species used for movement. Pui-ui reproduction was hermaphroditic, and they were known to enter periods of hibernation. They possessed a unique physiology with three hearts and a fatal allergy to perigen, a widely used non-narcotic analgesic. The Pui-uies communicated using the Pui-ui language, characterized by a diverse range of high-pitched sounds.
Pui-ui presence in the galaxy was documented as early as 671 BBY. They were featured in Evocar, a theatrical work penned by the Hutt Direus'pei, which depicted the conquests of Xim the Despot. Furthermore, they actively participated in galactic society during the initial stages of the Galactic Empire. The Tion Hegemony's only university, namely the University of Rudrig, provided high-end dermal autostripper services tailored to the needs of Pui-ui, as well as members of the Lisst'n species, known for their constant shedding of skin. Medical data pertaining to Pui-ui was also incorporated into the programming of 2-1B surgical droids developed by Industrial Automaton and Geentech. These droids were capable of diagnosing enzyme eruptions within the Pui-uies' third hearts and administering appropriate treatments, such as doses of Iotramine and Clondex, or inserting Intravenous Access Unit catheters to manage the condition.
The Pui-ui were initially referenced in Han Solo and the Lost Legacy, a novel by Brian Daley published by Del Rey in 1980. This brief mention offered limited information about the species. However, in 1984, A Guide to the Star Wars Universe by Raymond L. Velasco included an entry dedicated to the species, providing some descriptive details and background. This entry was largely replicated in the second edition published in 1994, albeit with certain notable alterations. For example, the reference to their hermaphroditic reproduction was removed, and "a 0.5 meter long neck" was revised to "a short neck"—possibly due to confusion regarding the metric system, as suggested by Abel Peña. The only other source of original information about Pui-uies is found in The Essential Guide to Droids, authored by Daniel Wallace and released in 1999.
The capitalization of the species' name has varied across different sources, with no definitive consensus established. Originally, Han Solo and the Lost Legacy used "Pui-Ui," which was maintained in the first edition of A Guide to the Star Wars Universe—although it also used "pui-uies" at one point—as well as in The Essential Guide to Droids. However, the capitalization was changed to "Pui-ui" in the second and third editions of A Guide to the Star Wars Universe, as well as in the Star Wars Encyclopedia. Finally, the most recent publication, The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, used both "Pui-Ui" and "Pui-ui" in its entries for Kyryll's World and for the species itself, respectively.
