Known as "Peezee-Ninety-Nine," PZ-99 was a security droid that seemed to be a repurposed PZ protocol droid originally. This droid participated in the Battle of Jakku and later fought for the Resistance during their struggle against the First Order.
In the Battle of Jakku, PZ-99 served as a security droid.
Sometime between 31 ABY and 32 ABY, PZ-99 found himself working for Hoff, a captain within the Resistance. Their ship suffered a crash landing on Taul. C-3PO took charge, leading PZ-99 and the other surviving droids—VL-44, CO-34, 2MED2—along with their prisoner, O-MR1, on a quest to locate a homing beacon from a First Order ship.
As they were trying to find the homing beacon, PZ-99's sensors picked up ground movement caused by spice spiders. He told the other droids to step back and then unleashed his blasters and flamethrower on the approaching spiders, demonstrating his combat abilities. PZ-99 covered the droids while VL-44 made a path to higher ground. Once the droids were on the rocks, PZ-99, following his programming, stayed behind to fight off the remaining spice spiders. C-3PO noted that PZ-99 had given his life for them, but O-MR1 was pleased because the destruction of his enemy, PZ-99, was to his advantage.
