R5-P8 was an astromech droid serving the Ohnaka Gang throughout the Clone Wars conflict. Uniquely painted, this droid also featured a significant modification: a Weequay blaster pistol was mounted on top of its head.
Under the leadership of Hondo Ohnaka, R5-P8 was a part of the Ohnaka Gang. R5-P8 was present when Count Dooku, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi were captured, and during their subsequent escape.
As the Galactic Empire rose to power, the Ohnaka Gang disbanded, leading R5 to find a place in a new gang headed by Gwarm, a former co-leader of the Ohnaka Gang.
Many years later, during the First Order-Resistance War, Hondo Ohnaka regained ownership of the droid. R5 then served as Hondo's assistant at Ohnaka Transport Solutions, located in the Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu. By this time, however, the blaster had been removed from the droid's head.
R5-P8 is featured in the pre-show segments of Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run, the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge attraction, before visitors embark on the Millennium Falcon. Guests can also hear the droid's whistles and beeps as Hondo Ohnaka reviews the Falcon's damage report just before they leave.
