Raid above Coruscant

During the Galactic Civil War, specifically in 1 BBY, the Rebel Alliance launched a raid that took place above Coruscant. The target of this raid was Imperial communications satellites.

After the Imperial Security Bureau's surveillance satellite network expanded into the Outer Rim Territories, the Rebel Alliance sent a lone T-65 X-wing starfighter to eliminate satellites orbiting Coruscant. The mission of the Rebel pilot, codenamed "Red One," was to obliterate the five comm sats, along with their defenses which included heat-seeking mines, and two Delta-class DX-9 stormtrooper transports belonging to Epsilon group. This all had to be accomplished within four minutes before the Imperial EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate named Sentinel could respond.

Later, the Rebel Alliance used this engagement as a training simulation. Its purpose was to instruct future pilots on precise targeting and navigation skills. Before Keyan Farlander's recruitment into Red Squadron on the Alliance flagship Independence, the Agamarian Rebel was assigned to this simulation by training officer Wex Dafid.

Behind the scenes

The 1993 video game Star Wars: X-Wing was the first appearance of this battle. It was featured as the third X-wing historical mission, entitled "Satellites near Coruscant."
