Their goal was to locate Delta Source, the suspected mole within the New Republic providing intelligence to Thrawn, and to exonerate Admiral Ackbar. They selected New Cov due to the Bothans' unique decision to defend it personally during the Galactic Civil War.
At Ilic, their initial discovery was the presence of Tav Breil'lya, an advisor to Senator Borsk Fey'lya. They suspected him of being a traitor to the New Republic working for Thrawn, making him a prime suspect as Delta Source. They tracked him and encountered the Bothan contacts: Irenez and Sena.
However, before Han, Lando, and Luke could acquire concrete proof regarding Fey'lya's advisor's treachery, Grand Admiral Thrawn's military forces materialized on the planet.
The Imperial forces routinely executed raids on Ilic, ostensibly to procure drugs and medicines—a facade concealing the city's illicit payments to Thrawn's confederation. However, they detected the presence of the Lady Luck and Luke's X-wing, thereby revealing the presence of former members of the Rebel Alliance. Certain Stormtroopers attempted to apprehend them within the hangars, but they ultimately succeeded in escaping aboard their respective starships.
In the expanse of space, Luke engaged the TIE fighter utilizing his X-wing, while Han and Lando endeavored to flee the system aboard the Lady Luck. Their salvation arrived through the intervention of a third party, marked by the appearance of three Dreadnaught-class heavy cruisers.
Luke Skywalker departed, heading towards Jomark with the intention of meeting Joruus C'baoth.
In the interim, Han Solo and Lando Calrissian were transported by a Dreadnaught cruiser to an undisclosed location known as Peregrine's Nest, where they encountered the renowned General Garm Bel Iblis, a founding figure of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. The Bothan Tav Breil'lya was, in reality, on New Cov to arrange a meeting between Borsk Fey'lya and Bel Iblis in order to persuade him to join Fey'lya's political faction.
Subsequently, Han Solo and Lando successfully convinced Garm Bel Iblis to align himself with the New Republic.
