The combat action known as the Raid targeting the Research convoy occurred during the Galactic Civil War. It took place in proximity to the XQ6 Platform which was focused on Research, within the Parmic system.
Following the successful delivery of the TIE Defender prototypes to Coruscant, despite Rebel meddling at Vinzen Neela 5, Admiral Zaarin was able to move forward with his new beam weapon project for starfighters. Suspecting the presence of an operative still within his station, he ensured the convoy had an escort of Assault Gunboats. Maarek Stele was one of the pilots within the squadron and was ready to meet with the convoy.
The convoy, which included two BFF-1 bulk freighters named Anterab and Degathem, was escorted by the Delta-class JV-7 escort shuttle, Omicron 5. It made its way to deliver the shipment to the freighter Docking Plt. Shortly after their arrival, six X-wings appeared, prompting the Gunboats to engage. Soon after, five B-wings and two Assault transports called Storm carrying commandos arrived to try and disable and seize the freighters.
Station personnel soon learned that the B-wings were equipped with a new kind of warhead. Wanting to study it, they instructed Maarek Stele to cripple one of the B-wings. Stele followed the orders and successfully disabled one, allowing the Heavy Lifter U3f14 to launch and bring it back to Research. During this, the Rebels managed to disable the freighter Anterab. However, Stele, aided by his squadron, repelled the Rebel attack, destroying both transports and eliminating the starfighter squadrons.
Once the fighting had ceased, the stormtrooper transport U-3f7 arrived to repair the damaged freighter, and the Heavy Lifter docked with the disabled B-wing to return it to Research. Three A-wings then arrived, but were quickly destroyed before they could inflict any damage.
The element of surprise that the Rebels hoped to gain with the Mag Pulse warhead was now gone. Zaarin's research team analyzed the B-wing's warheads and discovered that Galactic Electronics in the Corporate Sector had developed them. This was viewed as an act of Treason, leading Zaarin to decide to capture the company.
This battle is featured in the 1994 PC game Star Wars: TIE Fighter. Specifically, it is Battle 6, mission 3.
