Rans was a male Human who held the position of Supreme Commander for the Galactic Republic forces throughout both the Great Galactic War and the Cold War that followed.
During his early years and the relatively peaceful period preceding the resurgence of the reconstituted Sith Empire, Rans's combat experience was limited to skirmishes with scattered Mandalorian groups, leaving him ill-prepared for the full-scale conflict initiated by the Sith. Nevertheless, his capacity for rapid decision-making and natural charisma facilitated his rise through the ranks, enabling him to elevate the Republic military to unprecedented levels of effectiveness. His appearance also made him a media favorite, and he eventually married the war hero Galena Rans. Rans was completely outmaneuvered by the Sith's strategy during the Sacking of Coruscant.
Drawing lessons from this devastating defeat, Rans implemented innovative strategies and dedicated all available resources to ultimately defeat the Sith. To achieve this, Rans led the Republic military in the Battle of Ilum. He was briefly captured by Imperial forces, but was subsequently rescued and, ultimately, Rans secured victory due to the internal divisions within the Sith ranks. Following the battle, Rans stepped down from his role, and Jace Malcom succeeded him as Supreme Commander.
