The Ratts Tyerell Foundation was an advocacy group focused on making known the perils inherent in the sport of podracing. Following the death of Ratts, his father, during the 32 BBY Boonta Eve Classic, Deland Tyerell established the organization. The Foundation's objective was to achieve a ban on podracing across the galaxy. Despite the backing of powerful financial entities, such as the Hutt Clan, the group's campaign gained momentum during the waning years of the Galactic Republic, attracting new supporters as various illegal activities linked to the sport were exposed. By 22 BBY, after several well-known racers faced arrest for a variety of offenses, podracing was prohibited within the Core Worlds, and viewership declined by over fifty percent, a direct result of the Tyerell Foundation's efforts.
The Star Wars canon included the Ratts Tyerell Foundation in 2015 through the fifty-first issue of Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon. Its initial reference appeared in the first issue of HoloNet News, a website presenting in-universe news reports that preceded the events of the 2002 motion picture Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.
