Razor bugs, also known as razorbugs, were tiny, disc-shaped insects that the Yuuzhan Vong biologically engineered. These creatures functioned as thrown weapons for ranged combat, capable of being launched as far as 130 meters.
The Yuuzhan Vong utilized razor bugs as projectile biots. Developed from the sparkbee, the razor bug was related to the thud bug, though their functions differed. Essentially living [knives](/article/knife-legends], razor bugs possessed shells that could tear through flesh and penetrate certain armor types. Upon being thrown, the razor bug would extend its wings, guiding it towards the intended target and providing homing abilities similar to those of the thud bug. They also displayed a relentless tenacity, continuing to attack until either the target or the razor bug was defeated.
Yuuzhan Vong fighters had the ability to hurl multiple razor bugs simultaneously, overwhelming their adversaries. A proficient user could also throw a razor bug and make it return to their hand immediately. Like other Yuuzhan Vong armaments, razor bugs could be incorporated into a Yuuzhan Vong's body and chest.
Choka Skell and Liaan Lah were among the Yuuzhan Vong warriors who employed razor bugs.
Following the Yuuzhan Vong War, they were prohibited, but individuals in the criminal underworld such as Jariah Syn still made use of them.
