The Renunciates were a dissenting group that broke away from the Pius Dea religious order. This order had held sway over the Galactic Republic for centuries when the Renunciates emerged.
Their beliefs underwent changes due to the impact of Jedi and Caamasi, deliberately aimed at creating a division within the influential religious organization. This led to a civil conflict within the Pius Dea. The Renunciates engaged in warfare against the primary faction, compelling the Pius Dea Faithful to divert more resources away from their other adversaries throughout the galaxy. The Renunciation and the ensuing internal conflict marked the beginning of the Seventh Alsakan Conflict. In this conflict, Alsakan allied with the Jedi Order, the Republic Navy, the Caamasi, and various other entities against the Republic, which was then under the control of the Pius Dea. Following a sabotage operation conducted by the Bureau of Ships and Services, numerous Pius Dea Cathedral ships became stranded in space, unable to reactivate their hyperdrives.
The remaining naval forces suffered extensive losses at the hands of the Renunciates' battleships. The leader of the order, Supreme Chancellor Contispex XIX, was captured by a squad of Jedi Knights on board his flagship. This event brought an end to both the internal strife between the factions and the larger Crusades that the order had inflicted upon the galaxy.
