Robot Chicken: Star Wars

Robot Chicken: Star Wars represents a double-length special episode of the program Robot Chicken, but with a Star Wars focus. It initially broadcasted on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block on June 17, 2007. The special showcased voice acting from figures like George Lucas, Mark Hamill, Ahmed Best, Tom Kane, Joey Fatone, and Bob Bergen. Its success led to a follow-up that was broadcast on November 16, 2008.

The special incorporates Star Wars-themed sketches from previous episodes along with fresh content.

Sketches

The transition between each sketch segment is visually marked by static flares across the screen.

  • The opening title sequence is a modified, thematic version of the show's usual opening, depicting Anakin Skywalker's reconstruction after his Mustafar battle. A deranged scientist retrieves a deceased bird from a lava stream, resurrects it using Force lightning and a surgical saw, and then straps "Darth Chicken" to a chair, forcing it to view television sets displaying clips from the special.
  • During the Battle of Hoth , Luke Skywalker takes down an AT-AT by grappling onto it and then tossing a grenade into a bathroom occupied by an unaware Imperial Army pilot engrossed in a copy of Naboobies magazine.
  • While Emperor Palpatine recounts his duel with Yoda in the Grand Convocation Chamber to Mas Amedda and Sim Aloo , Darth Vader interrupts with news of the Death Star's destruction, causing Palpatine to become enraged over the resulting financial loss. (This sketch originally appeared in the episode 1987 .)
  • The bartender at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina asks a Jawa for their order, and the Jawa responds by shouting "Martini!"
  • A janitor, cleaning up the remains of Darth Maul on Naboo, requests a transfer to Coruscant .
  • AckbarCereal Admiral Ackbar Cereal. Admiral Ackbar is featured in an advertisement for a cereal named after him.
  • The altercation between industrial designer Ponda Baba and Luke Skywalker in the Mos Eisley Cantina is revealed to stem from a miscommunication caused by Cornelius Evazan , Ponda's persistently joking friend who is too intoxicated to accurately translate. (This sketch also appeared in Adultizzle Swizzle , an alternate version of the episode The Sack .)
  • C-3PO and R2-D2 face difficulties at an airport security checkpoint due to their metallic composition.
  • Qui-Gon Jinn tries to hand his lit lightsaber to Obi-Wan, but Obi-Wan fumbles it, leading to disruptive consequences.
  • An Imperial officer observes a minor (and embarrassing) technical issue in Darth Vader's meditation chamber .
  • New Imperial Death Star officers receive an orientation explaining that Darth Vader's Force choke is merely a perceived threat, along with instructions on how to avoid being permanently killed by his lightsaber .
  • After destroying the first Death Star, Luke is excited to inform his uncle and aunt of his success, but he abruptly remembers their deaths mid-call.
  • Boba Fett Fan Obsessive fans see George Lucas. At a Star Wars convention, George Lucas (voicing himself) encounters the Nerd (a recurring Robot Chicken character) dressed as a tauntaun and is rescued by this very nerd from a horde of out-of-control nerds, creating a cherished memory for his savior.
  • Ben Kenobi takes advantage of Luke's temporary vulnerability during their training session on the Millennium Falcon to indulge his sadistic tendencies by kneeing Luke in the groin.
  • After a British-accented space slug loses the Millennium Falcon , he and his companion decide to order an enormous amount of Chinese takeout.
  • The janitor sweeps up the body of Mace Windu after it falls from Palpatine's office on Coruscant and requests a transfer to the Death Star.
  • Then-President George W. Bush discovers he possesses Jedi abilities and decides to use them for amusement, including a lightsaber fight with Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial , only to realize it was a dream after accidentally killing his daughter in a fit of rage, slicing off her middle finger after she flipped him off and said her real dad would let her "go clubbing all she wants". (Originally from the episode Massage Chair .)
  • The Bespin 4 Weather Tracker forecasts more cloudy weather for Cloud City .
  • A homeless person has already occupied the tauntaun that Han Solo cuts open to save Luke.
  • During their confrontation on the Death Star II , Luke and the Emperor engage in a "Yo Momma" battle, with Darth Vader acting as the judge. The Emperor loses, and Vader throws him down the shaft.
  • The janitor sweeps up Palpatine's corpse, which falls right in front of him. (This references the opening sketch of Amazon Women on the Moon .)
  • Han's radio communication regarding reactors in the detention level becomes increasingly complicated, requiring a call to Vader's office and a review of the schematics.
  • Jar Jar Binks visits Darth Vader. Vader, with diminished patience, ejects him from an airlock, only for Jar Jar to return as an irritating Force ghost .
  • The real reason for Luke's excuse to his uncle Owen about going to " Toshi Station to pick up some power converters " is revealed.
  • Boba Fett celebrates capturing Han aboard Slave I by both boasting and sharing an intimate moment with his frozen captive.
  • Chewbacca recreates Fonz's hair-combing routine from the Happy Days intro.
  • Darth Vader attempts to sway Luke to the dark side in Cloud City by revealing secrets from the Star Wars films, including his paternity, Leia's identity as his sister, the Empire's downfall at the hands of Ewoks , his creation of C-3PO, and the Force's lack of mysticism. Disgusted by his unprofessional conduct, Luke departs. (Originally from the episode Vegetable Funfest .)
  • The Emperor's taunting of Luke is interrupted by the loud construction occurring on the second Death Star .
  • Lobot's cybernetic implants are actually headphones, and he dances to the " Force Theme " in Cloud City's corridors.
  • A commercial promotes Max Rebo's new album, which repeatedly emphasizes that he is definitely not an elephant.
  • An episode of Mid-Nite with Zuckuss demonstrates that the Galactic Empire's leaders have little tolerance for talkative talk show hosts.
  • Princess Leia and Luke share a very intimate—and very inappropriate —moment.
  • An ice show adaptation of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back , titled Empire on Ice (highlighting events on Hoth ), is performed.
  • End credits: chickens "bawk" the Star Wars credits music.
  • After the end credits, an additional scene shows Jar Jar Binks continuing to irritate Darth Vader as he tries to sleep in his Star Wars themed room.
  • The "Stoopid Monkey" at the end has severed his hand with a lightsaber .

Notes

In the segment featuring the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the creators replaced some veterans' names with their own, including Seth Green (clearly visible) and Matthew Senreich (partially obscured). Senreich's portrait also replaces George Washington's above the Oval Office fireplace.

In the scene where Jar Jar Binks haunts Darth Vader, four Star Wars Miniatures (a stormtrooper commander, a scout trooper, a stormtrooper, and R2-D2) are visible on Vader's nightstand. Vader also sleeps under Star Wars sheets, and his bed frame resembles his meditation chamber.

During the sketch with President Bush and former President Clinton, the restaurant is represented by a single yellow arch on a red bar, a clear nod to McDonald's double arches. Clinton also orders a Big Mac, a signature dish of the restaurant.

The Power Converters appear to be the dancers from the Max Rebo Band.

In the Ponda Baba sketch, objects resembling IG-88's head are present: the water cooler in Ponda's office and machines behind the cantina counter. These are references to the parts used in A New Hope to create IG-88's head. Additionally, a picture of Ponda is on the left wall of his bedroom, and his address is 1138.

During the Mid-Nite with Zuckuss sketch, a mug shaped like Boushh's helmet is on the desk, referencing Conan O'Brien's Eisenhower mug.

There is no skit specifically based on Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, though Kamino is mentioned.

The show includes at least six censored uses of the word "fuck," mostly in the second sketch.

The second sketch, "Vader Calls the Emperor," was previously featured in a regular Robot Chicken episode with Darth Vader having an unusually deep voice. This voice was re-recorded for the Star Wars special to sound more like James Earl Jones.

In the space slugs sketch, the Millennium Falcon's cockpit is on the left side instead of the right.

This special was referenced at the conclusion of the Family Guy Star Wars special "Blue Harvest" as an inside joke, as Seth Green, a Robot Chicken creator, also voices Chris Griffin on Family Guy. Chris breaks the fourth wall by asking, "But didn't Robot Chicken do this a few months ago?" His father, Peter, then disparages Robot Chicken, claiming its obscurity. Angered, Chris leaves the room, calling Peter "a really big jerk". The subsequent specials Something, Something, Something, Dark Side and, to a lesser extent, Family Guy: It's A Trap! contained similar Robot Chicken references. In the former, Peter challenges Robot Chicken to "top" his story, only for Chris to point out that it already had and that he was determined not to let Peter get to him, but he ultimately stormed out of the room when Peter casually mentioned that Chris could tell Without a Paddle (referencing Seth Green's role in the unsuccessful film of the same name).
