An Imperial doonium refinery, situated close to the Tann Province on Ryloth, was a combined doonium mine and refinery. The Galactic Empire initiated its construction soon after their formation in 19 BBY. The Empire asserted that this refinery would create employment opportunities for the local Twi'lek people, envisioning it as the initial project in a series of similar ventures. Nevertheless, local inhabitants like Eleni Syndulla and Gobi Glie harbored doubts about the Empire's true intentions, observing that the new governing body exhibited excessive secrecy, contradicting their claims of transparency. Syndulla also expressed concerns regarding the refinery's deployment of turbolasers and the presence of military forces, given the Empire's assertion that it was not a military base.
Description
The doonium refinery was a substantial Imperial facility constructed in 19 BBY on the planet Ryloth, representing the first of numerous projected sites. Extensive pipeline systems stretched deep into a sizable mountain, extracting doonium and transporting it back to the facility for processing. The majority of the refinery's labor force consisted of the indigenous Twi'lek community. The refinery's defenses included multiple turbolasers and a garrison of clone stormtroopers.
