Sand snake

Sand snakes, a species of snake covered in furry, inhabited the arid world of Geonosis. These creatures possessed eyes and mouths located centrally on their bodies, and could reach lengths of up to three meters (equivalent to ten feet). Exhibiting greater size and deadlier characteristics compared to the parasitic phidna, sand snakes displayed sufficient cunning to evade their primary natural predator, the canine massiff. Approximately around 9 BBY, the Galactic Empire implemented a sterilization program on Geonosis.

Behind the scenes

Within the established Star Wars canon, sand snakes received a mention in "Geonosis and Other Planets in the Outer Rim," a segment featured in the Star Wars Encyclopedia collection published by De Agostini on November 23, 2021. The snakes' origins trace back to the Star Wars Legends timeline, marking their initial appearance in the 2002 novel titled Boba Fett: The Fight to Survive, authored by Terry Bisson.
