Sandwind team, operating on the planet of Tatooine, functioned as a clandestine unit within the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
From a farm located on Motesta, Tatooine, this eleven-member group coordinated all Rebel operations throughout the Arkanis sector. Under the leadership of N'tain Xalis, the Sandwind leader, the team included agents Carlio and Swanze, in addition to eight other permanent members, as well as utilizing contacts and unofficial support agents.
Xalis desired a certain tranquility to effectively carry out his responsibilities, which influenced his selection of Tatooine as the team's base of operations. However, he later realized that Tatooine was not as peaceful as he had hoped: The search for the Death Star schematics and the pursuit of Adar Tallon nearly exposed the Sandwind team's existence.
The Sandwind team eventually encountered a recurring adversary in the form of the Jundland Banshee, a solitary but formidable Tusken Raider. For reasons unknown, the Banshee engaged in multiple acts of sabotage, including the destruction of Sandwind communication sub-anchors three and twelve. The Banshee's attacks on local farmers also risked attracting the attention of the Galactic Empire, which could have easily led to the discovery of Sandwind. Despite both Carlio and Swanze observing the Banshee (in Beggar's Canyon and Nomad Gulch respectively), neither was able to apprehend him.
During a period when leader Xalis was required to travel to the Elus sector, Adazian Liebke, a Rebel officer, temporarily assumed command and experienced difficulties with the Banshee. Furthermore, Xalis aided in sheltering Rebel agent Tay Vanis from Moff Murquan, thereby gaining two new and influential allies for Sandwind.
Ultimately, Xalis compiled a report regarding the Banshee for The Task Force on Alliance Security, with the backing of his associates Liebke and Vanis. Vanis proposed dispatching a Rebel combat unit disguised as bounty hunters hired by the farmers.
