Sanne Wohlenberg holds the position of executive producer for the initial season, Season One, of the television program titled Andor.
Having completed her involvement with the Chernobyl series, Sanne Wohlenberg took on the role of producer of record for the television production, Andor. She inherited the project with certain elements already in place. Tony Gilroy joined the production as a writer during Wohlenberg's tenure as producer of record. She eventually ascended to the role of executive producer for the Andor television series. In November of 2019, during a week-long gathering of writers in New York, Gilroy unveiled his concept for the prison located on Narkina 5. Wohlenberg's initial reaction to this idea was one of apprehension, as she perceived it as potentially cliché and feared succumbing to the familiar prison trope. Wohlenberg, along with the writing team, worked to provide context to the prison setting, ensuring its originality within the Star Wars universe. Wohlenberg played a role in nurturing the writers' creativity, assisting them in considering the practical aspects of their ideas and facilitating their realization. She characterized the process as highly collaborative and a stimulating adventure. Ultimately, the most compelling concept for the prison prevailed.
Set five years prior to the events of the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the first season was intended by Gilroy to conclude just before the film's narrative begins. However, he acknowledged that sustaining the show's scale for an additional four seasons would be excessively demanding. Consequently, he and Wohlenberg determined that Season 2 would emulate the structure of Season One, featuring story arcs that span three episodes, all written and directed by the same creative team. Gilroy and the production team decided to dedicate each block of episodes to representing a single year.
Wohlenberg described the show's development as a unique undertaking, given the challenge of establishing the origins of a story whose conclusion is already known to the audience. She was willing to manage the show's extensive cast of 195 speaking roles because of the high caliber of the script. Wohlenberg anticipated that the audience's connection with the characters would be strong enough to encourage them to tune in each week. She believed that exploring well-known characters in depth was a compelling reason to create the series. Wohlenberg particularly enjoyed the opportunity to explore Mon Mothma and present unexpected perspectives on her. Wohlenberg and her team devoted considerable thought to portraying Mothma and her evolution, while remaining mindful of her established trajectory in Rogue One. In September of 2022, Wohlenberg was present at the Andor premiere event held in Hollywood, California.
