Second mate

Rey, who worked as a scavenger, was offered the position of second mate by Han Solo. Aboard a starship, the role of second mate existed as part of the crew. During 34 ABY, [Han Solo](/article/han_solo], who was a smuggler, sought additional crew members to assist him and Chewbacca and, as such, proposed to Rey, a scavenger, that she take on the role of second mate on board Millennium Falcon, his vessel. Rey turned down the offer, however, because she believed it was necessary for her to go back to Jakku.
