Second mission to New Apsolon

In the year 41 BBY, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, accompanied by his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, embarked on a mission to the world of New Apsolon. Their objective was to locate the undercover Jedi Master Tahl, who had sent a distress signal after receiving a plea for help from twin sisters named Alani and Eritha, who desired safe passage to Coruscant.

Prelude

Tahl, a Jedi Master, was contacted by Alani and Eritha, who were the twin daughters of Ewane, the assassinated leader of New Apsolon. The sisters were afraid that Roan, a friend of their father, had murdered him, and they sought safe transport to Coruscant. Tahl informed the Jedi High Council that she had received the request for an investigation and relayed the twins' suspicions about Roan, their father's successor, just as Qui-Gon Jinn entered the High Council Chamber. Mace Windu permitted Jinn to remain, as he had been involved with the original mission some years prior. After completing her briefing, Tahl announced her intention to return in a few days with the twins, although Jinn argued that he should accompany her.

Upon her arrival on the planet, Tahl discovered that the Absolutes movement, a feared terrorist organization, was still active. She infiltrated the group to uncover the events unfolding on the unstable world. However, Tahl was soon betrayed by Alani and Eritha, and severely injured when she was taken into custody.

Three weeks after Tahl's departure, Jinn approached the Council with Obi-Wan Kenobi, expressing his concern for Tahl's safety and declaring his intention to travel to New Apsolon to find her. Windu stated that Jedi were not bound by schedules and that the Council was not worried about Tahl's mission. Jinn protested, insisting that he would go regardless of the Council's opinion. Windu then firmly warned that if he left, he would be acting against the Council's wishes. Jinn and Kenobi arrived on the planet as quickly as possible, located Tahl, and freed her, helping her escape the Absolutes. Shortly afterward, Governor Roan was discovered dead after going to find the kidnapped twins, who had been taken by the Absolutes. Consequently, the Jedi orchestrated a secret meeting between the Absolutes, the Civilized, and the Workers movements. However, this was a deception planned by Chief of Security Balog, who once again kidnapped Tahl and took her away.

Jinn and Kenobi formed an alliance with Eritha and journeyed across the landscape to locate Tahl and Balog. Eritha revealed to them that Alani was the leader of the Absolutes, and that she sought control of the planet. Despite this revelation, the two Jedi and Eritha continued, eventually reaching a rock worker colony led by Yanci. After spending the night there, the Jedi and Eritha departed, only to return when the Absolutes attacked the colony. All the residents, except for Yanci, were killed. The three soon discovered a base that served as a front for the Absolutes. Eritha pretended to be captured, allowing the Jedi to enter unnoticed. They rescued Tahl, who had been severely weakened by a crude device. After freeing her, the base self-destructed. The two Jedi and Eritha fled the facility with Tahl, taking her to doctors who reported that she would not recover, although Jinn remained confident that she would survive. While in a medcenter, Tahl succumbed to her wounds, causing Jinn immense grief, pain, and rage. Jinn vowed to find Balog and kill him.

Seeking vengeance

Qui-Gon is brought dangerously close to the dark side following Tahl's death.

Shortly thereafter, Kenobi contacted the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and informed them of Tahl's passing. This prompted Mace Windu, a Jedi Master, and Bant Eerin, Tahl's apprentice, to travel to the planet to begin an investigation. After viewing Tahl's body lying in state, the team began analyzing the circumstances surrounding her death. However, Jinn abruptly departed on his own pursuit of Balog, Tahl's killer, seeking vengeance. Windu and both apprentices learned of this and followed clues to Jinn's whereabouts. Eventually, Jinn returned, and the team learned the truth about Alani and Eritha and their involvement with the Absolutes movement. The Jedi soon located Balog in his hideout, and Jinn swiftly disarmed him. However, Tahl's sudden words resonated with Jinn, and he regained his composure, having Balog arrested along with the twins. They then departed New Apsolon to restore its fragile government while taking Tahl's body to the Jedi Temple for a traditional funeral.

Aftermath

With the sisters and Balog apprehended and sentenced to imprisonment, Manex was appointed as the governor of New Apsolon. As the fragile government began to mend itself toward democracy and equality, the Jedi returned to Coruscant with Tahl's body to give her a traditional Jedi funeral.
