Within the galaxy existed Sector G-38, a specific spatial zone. In the year 9 ABY, the Defender-class cruiser known as the Vesper, belonging to the New Republic, found its voyage through Sector G-38 interrupted. This interruption came in the form of the former Jedi named Baylan Skoll, accompanied by his apprentice, Shin Hati. Laying claim to the title of Jedi, their assertion was met with disbelief by the Vesper's Captain, Hayle, who considered them imposters worthy of apprehension upon boarding. Despite not being Jedi, their Force-sensitive nature allowed them to subdue Hayle, the security team he brought for the arrest, and the remainder of the crew. Following this takeover, they successfully extracted Morgan Elsbeth, who was held as a prisoner aboard the vessel.
