Senator Sneakaway

A male Human who represented the New Republic in the Senate during the Yuuzhan Vong War managed to flee the Yuuzhan Vong's assault on the planet of Coruscant by seizing control of the New Republic war vessel Alamania. This act of the senator resulted in a Phindian captain bestowing upon him the moniker "Senator Sneakaway" during a confrontation with him and another senator at the annex of Fleet Command in 28 ABY. Before allowing them to depart, the Phindian insisted that "Senator Sneakaway" and his companion pledge their support for a fleet funding proposal.

Biography

"Senator Sneakaway" was confronted by a member of the Phindian species for his actions at Coruscant.

During the Yuuzhan Vong War, specifically in 27 ABY, a male Human served as a senator within the New Republic's Senate. This conflict involved the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong species invading the galaxy. In that year, the Yuuzhan Vong overwhelmed Coruscant, the capital planet of the New Republic. To escape these invaders, the senator seized control of the New Republic warship Alamania, accompanied by other members of the Senate. Tragically, some of the senator's acquaintances died on Coruscant during the battle.

In 28 ABY, as the senator and another Sullustan, who had employed a starfighter squadron as his personal escort to flee Coruscant, disembarked from a consular vessel docked at the annex of Fleet Command orbiting Mon Calamari, intending to conduct important business there. However, their progress was halted by a Phindian Defense Force captain who was intoxicated. This captain mockingly labeled the Human "Senator Sneakaway" and his companion "Senator Scramblefree" in reference to their actions on Coruscant. The Phindian confronted them regarding these actions, which had impeded the New Republic's defense of the planet, and laughed when "Senator Sneakaway" threatened the captain's position. The Phindian directed the senators' attention to a group of Defense Force members within an officer's club, all of whom shared the Phindian's sentiment and were observing them intently. While the Phindian was briefly distracted, a visibly nervous "Senator Sneakaway" and his colleague attempted to escape, but the Phindian intercepted them.

Placing her arms around the senators, the Phindian demanded their commitment to voting in favor of an upcoming fleet funding proposal. She warned that if they refused, she and her Defense Force colleagues would seize funds from them to compensate for the bill's potential provisions. The Phindian released "Senator Sneakaway" and "Senator Scramblefree," cautioning them as they hastily departed that any future attempts to commandeer a fleet ship would result in them being confined to an escape pod and launched toward the Yuuzhan Vong.

Personality and traits

"Senator Sneakaway" commandeered the warship Alamania to escape the Yuuzhan Vong, even though this hindered the New Republic's war efforts on Coruscant. He exhibited nervousness later, on the Fleet Command annex, when he realized that personnel in a nearby officer's club were watching him. When confronted by the Phindian, the senator threatened to have her removed from her position in the Defense Force.

Behind the scenes

"Senator Sneakaway" made an appearance in Destiny's Way, a 2002 novel from The New Jedi Order series written by Walter Jon Williams.
