Shaka-ka, a Barabel, took command of her people and initiated attacks on the hunting groups organized by Planetary Safaris Inc.. This corporation was responsible for arranging hunting trips targeting Barabels on their home planet. In response to this horrific situation, Shaka-ka's Barabels began to systematically destroy the hunting parties. Seeking to safeguard their commercial interests, Planetary Safaris petitioned for the Barabels to be exterminated under the regulations of the Dangerous Species Act.
To look into the allegations made by Planetary Safaris, the Imperials dispatched Captain Osted Alater to Barab I. During his investigation, he learned that the Barabels were, in fact, a sentient species, leading to the shutdown of Planetary Safaris.
Alater and Shaka-ka formed a friendship, and together they established the city known as Alater-ka. Shaka-ka chose this name to pay tribute to Captain Alater. Following Shaka-ka's passing, a magnificent monument was constructed in the city center to commemorate her life. Tragically, this memorial was obliterated during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of Barab I.
