Shilmer's syndrome

Shilmer's syndrome, a debilitating illness, was characterized by the decay and consumption of flesh, potentially leading to the loss of limbs and impairment of the vocal cords in afflicted individuals. Following his contraction of this ailment on the Inner Rim planet of [Gorse], Lemuel Tharsa, an inspector from the Interstellar Thorilide Guild, underwent treatment at a local medcenter before transforming himself into the wealthy industrialist Denetrius Vidian, employing extensive cybernetics to replace his ravaged body. Vidian's eventual death, which stemmed from his treasonous activities against the Galactic Empire during the Gorse Conflict, was concealed by attributing it to a resurgence of Shilmer's syndrome.

Behind the scenes

The initial reference to Shilmer's syndrome appeared in John Jackson Miller's 2014 novel, A New Dawn.
