Showdown, the seventh part of The Kingdom of Ice, saw its release in January 1979 within Pizzazz 16. With the cancellation of Pizzazz, this issue became the last, leaving the storyarc unresolved. The complete narrative was later republished in the UK, appearing in Star Wars Weekly issues 57 to 60 during 1979; the ending of the story arc was also first published in Star Wars Weekly 60.
Due to an ice storm, the Imperial strato-hopper transporting the captured Princess Leia Organa is forced to land, giving Luke Skywalker, Odan, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Fafnir the chance to close the distance via the underground tunnels created by an ice worm. As the Rebels are attacked by the ice worm, they use the exhaust from their power skis to provoke it, causing it to change direction and attack the Imperial strato-hopper on the surface.
To escape, the Imperial commander abandons his Stormtroopers to fight the ice worm, while he boards an emergency snow flyer with Princess Leia, setting a course for the Imperial Polar Base.
