Shuma, a merchant of the Quarren species, had journeyed to numerous star systems. This Quarren had explored 117 star systems by 3 ABY, with destinations including the planet [Kijimi] and the Outer Rim moon of [Toshara]. Two astromech droids accompanied them on their travels. Shuma's goal was to accumulate enough credits to begin a new chapter with her partner, and the Quarren longed to go back to her home.
Kay Vess, a human outlaw, encountered Shuma, bought items from them, and got to know the Quarren.
