Shumari, a world situated within the Parmel sector of the Outer Rim Territories, is classified as a planet. Legend states that the Tusken Raider known as KkH'Oar'Rrhr is said to have journeyed to this very planet to confront the Demon Outlander, better known as Darth Vader, who was responsible for the annihilation of his village.
The stories found within Star Wars Manga, initially released in Japan, were considered to have a "fuzzy" place in continuity by Lucasfilm. They were later re-released in English in the United Kingdom under the Infinities banner, which designated the material as non-canonical.
Daniel Wallace, the author, explicitly stated in his article We Need to Talk About Jar Jar, which appeared in Star Wars Insider 131 in February of 2012, that the stories contained within the Star Wars Manga: Black comic trade paperback are not part of the canon. Despite this, a brief reference to the events of the comic was made later, on August 22, 2013, in the Blog Barely Tolerable: Alien Henchmen of the Empire Part 2. This blog post noted that KkH'Oar'Rrhr, one of the aliens allied with the Galactic Empire, had traveled to the planet hoping to slay the "Demon Outlander" (Darth Vader).
Later, the planet Shumari received another mention in The Essential Atlas, where the Shumari system was included in its appendix. However, according to Jason Fry, "its inclusion shouldn't be taken as a statement of canonicity for anything except the geography."
On the world of Shumari, a catastrophic battle unfolded, pitting Jedi survivors of Order 66 against Imperial stormtroopers led by Darth Vader. During the ground conflict, Imperial Star Destroyers hovering above the planet unleashed a devastating orbital bombardment, similar to the destruction of Taris four millennia prior, which completely ravaged the planet's surface, rendering it uninhabitable.
Ultimately, all but one of the Jedi forces were defeated. Vader spared Tao, a Padawan native to Shumari, and took him on as his secret Sith apprentice.
Years later, in 1 ABY, Vader made a return to Shumari with Tao, who was succumbing to wounds inflicted by Vader in a duel. Vader wished for Tao to see his home planet one last time. Suddenly, a vengeful Tusken Raider ambushed Vader. This Tusken had survived Anakin Skywalker's massacre of the Tusken Raiders from the Valley of the Spirits tribe in 22 BBY. This Tusken, who had vowed to hunt down and kill Vader, had learned Basic and trained in lightsaber combat. Utilizing a modified gaffi stick, he successfully knocked Vader to the ground.
Before the Tusken could deliver the final blow, Tao mustered his remaining strength to defend the Dark Lord. Tao managed to deflect the attack and kill the Tusken, saving Vader's life. Moments later, the Shumari Jedi collapsed, succumbing to his wounds. Vader erected a monument to the Shumari Jedi, which became the last object crafted by hand on the planet.
