Sikoroot was a culinary herb. In the kitchen of Maz Kanata's castle, the Volpai sous-chef Robbs Ely incorporated a touch of sikoroot into a sauce intended for bantha meat, not long before he met his death at the hands of the pirate BD-3000 luxury droids J'Nell and Carly. Investigating Ely's demise, Strono Tuggs, the castle's head chef, identified the subtle presence of sikoroot while examining a sauce sample left on the keypad to Ely's room by one of the droids. Later, chef Jom Jarusch recreated the sikoroot-infused sauce using Robbs Ely's recipe book during a cooking contest orchestrated by Tuggs to expose Ely's murderer, leading Tuggs to initially suspect Jarusch, though the chef had merely acquired the book.
The short story "A Recipe for Death," penned by Landry Q. Walker and featured in the Tales from a Galaxy Far, Far Away: Aliens: Volume I anthology, which was released on April 5, 2016, marked the initial appearance of sikoroot.
