Sinsor Khal was a scientist from Hapes (a male) who, in the era of the Galactic Republic, had formerly been training to be a Jedi. The reasons are not known, but he was deemed unsuitable as a Jedi, and therefore not targeted during the Great Jedi Purge. Not long before the Purge occurred, he went back to the Hapes Consortium, where he rose to prominence as a scientist; however, his lack of concern for his test subjects led to Ta'a Chume confining him, more or less, on Gallinore.
During the Yuuzhan Vong War, Jaina Solo looked for Khal, hoping to isolate and exploit Yuuzhan Vong communications tech. To get the results she wanted, Khal "experimented" on Crimpler, a captured pirate who had a coral implant in his neck, pushing him close to death. After a period of 48 hours, Khal obtained the data he was looking for, and provided it to Jaina for her use.
